How to Prepare Your Home for a Professional Clean

You’ve done the research, compared the quotes, and booked your Sparkle Window Cleaning service. Whether you’re getting a full soft-wash house wash, a gutter flush, or your windows detailed, a little preparation goes a long way.

In Brisbane, we pride ourselves on being efficient and thorough. But we can work twice as fast (and twice as safely) if the "prep work" is handled before we arrive at your driveway in North Lakes, Sandgate, or Paddington.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the 1,500-word "Ultimate Prep Checklist" to ensure you get the absolute best value from your professional clean.

    1. Access: The Golden Rule

We can't clean what we can't reach. Access is the most common reason for delays in the industry.

    • Gate Access: Please ensure all side gates are unlocked. If you have a keypad, feel free to text us the code on the morning of the service.
    • Driveway Space: If we are performing an exterior house wash or roof clean, we’ll need space for our ute and potentially a trailer. Keeping the driveway clear allows us to set up our pumps and chemical tanks as close to the house as possible.
    • Working Water Tap: This is our lifeline! Please ensure at least one external tap is functional and has good pressure. If your tap is notoriously leaky or high-pressure, let us know so we can bring the right adapters.

    2. Protecting your Outdoor Living Space

Brisbane homes are built for outdoor living, but our furniture and decor aren't always "soft-wash friendly."

    Furniture & Cushions

Soft washing involves specialized biocides. While safe for your home, they aren't meant for your designer outdoor cushions.

    • Move it back: Please move chairs, tables, and lounges at least 2-3 metres away from the house walls.
    • Cushions: Store these inside or in a garage.
    • BBQs: Please ensure the lid is closed and, ideally, move it away from the wall to allow us to clean the area behind the grill.

    Potted Plants

Our "Plant-Safe" protocol involves pre-soaking your garden, but "delicate" indoor-style plants on patios (like Orchids or certain Ferns) should be moved inside or under a covered area during a house wash.

    3. The "Sealing" Check: Windows & Doors

It sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how often a lone window is left 'just a crack' open!

    • The Walkthrough: On the morning of your clean, do a lap of the house. Check the laundry window, the high-set bathroom louvres, and especially any sliding doors.
    • The "Rattle" Test: In some older Queenslanders in Ascot or Clayfield, windows don't always seal perfectly. If you have a window that is known to leak, please let Michael know so we can adjust our pressure and technique accordingly.

    4. Internal Preparation (For Window Cleaning)

If you’ve booked interior window cleaning, this is where you can really help us achieve that "Crystal Clear" finish.

    • Clear the Sills: Please remove all candles, photos, and knick-knacks from the windowsills. This prevents accidental breakage and allows us to wipe the tracks and sills thoroughly.
    • Blinds & Curtains: Pull all blinds to the top and draw curtains back. If you have heavy shutters, please ensure they are open.
    • Furniture Buffers: You don't need to move the piano, but moving lighter armchairs or desks about 1 metre back from the window gives our technicians the room they need to work their magic with the squeegee.

    5. Pets & Children: Safety First

We use commercial equipment that can be loud and involve high-visibility hoses.

    • Dogs: Even the friendliest Labradors can get excited (or scared) by the sound of a pressure cleaner. For their safety and our efficiency, please keep pets inside or in a secure side-yard.
    • Children: Hoses can be a trip hazard, and our "Pure Water" poles are long and heavy. Please ensure children stay a safe distance from the work area while the technicians are active.

    6. Post-Cleaning: The "Drying" Phase

Once we leave, the house will look amazing, but it will still be wet!

    • Wipe the Bottom of Doors: We do our best to dry entrance areas, but please be careful walking in and out for the first hour as the thresholds can be slippery.
    • Avoid Touching the Glass: Our pure-water method leaves the glass perfectly clear, but it takes about 10-15 minutes to dry completely. Touching wet "pure water" with oily fingers will leave a permanent mark until the next clean.

    Verdict: A Partnership in Sparkle

By following this checklist, you’re not just helping us—you’re ensuring that every dollar you spend on professional cleaning goes toward the results, not toward moving furniture or hunting for keys.

Whether you’re in a high-set home in Paddington or a modern low-set in North Lakes, Sparkle Window Cleaning is committed to making your home the envy of the street.
